It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have already been conquered.

We're talking about the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the achievement hunters, are all that remain for a side that has accomplished all there is.

The fact it required as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the pitchers that have worn canary yellow over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their batsmen to hold a record if not provided the chance.

Finally, the outcome of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy being given a chance to create her newest gem.

Initially recognized as the 19-year-old niece of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her debut and seven world titles have come from 10 efforts across formats.

The gritty keeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India temporarily stopped the successful run.

That loss "drove us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the title decider and was declared player of the series. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display remains open for discussion.

Many contend the reasoning behind final game tension. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's definite is this ton was considerably tougher to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings was preceded by six games in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it's been a disappointing period because I feel like my form was missing whatsoever," commented Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your competitive nature activate and you simply focus on the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the 22-year-old seamer in all three matches, but this time it merely gave Healy's spark.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and from that point the right-hander was on her way.

"An opportunity to play and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the World Cup - and her hundred in 84 balls as she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three big hits.

When she was removed Australia needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the belief to do that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to do it again but, if we do, we are confident we can achieve it."

That comment will be the final thing competing nations at this tournament should hear.

In recent days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has become more firm - this triumph following win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

It was in the semi-finals they left the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - an encounter Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the initial instance at an important competition.

So strong is her resolve, she later said she wanted to have participated through the pain.

Yet even as she subsequently acknowledged those physical issues have postponed consideration of ending her career, this tournament is anticipated as her concluding event as leader in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as leader.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
